Dr. Norda Stephenson is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Science, Math and Technology Education at Western Washington University. Norda grew up in Jamaica, and earned her doctoral degree in Chemistry from the University of the West Indies, in 2015. Prior to transitioning to higher education, Norda taught high school chemistry for a number of years.
Norda conducts research in Chemistry Education. Her interests center around undergraduate science students’ understanding of the science and engineering practices, pre-service science teachers’ conceptual understandings, and persistence, participation and retention patterns of students from underrepresented groups in STEM. Norda is also passionate about issues related to access, diversity, equity and inclusion.
