Dr Bhavna Kamlesh Joshipura

Dr. Bhavna Kamlesh Joshipura is a senior advocate by profession; diligence, articulation and leadership qualities are innate to her. She is national Vice President AIWC which is oldest and largest women organisation of India. Her interests apart from law and advocacy extend to journalism, human rights and international humanitarian law as well. She became the first woman president of Surendranagar Bar Association, first woman mayor of Rajkot Municipal Corporation, and first lady home guard officer of her town.

She provides free of charge legal advice and extends her help at various levels to the women in distress and dire need; as an advocate she is considered as a ray of hope for the women. She is credited to have started self–employment centres for women, and is working persistently for women’s empowerment. She has been conferred with “Vivekanand Award”, the highest award of the State and the Governor. From her early days, she has been actively involved in the rehabilitation of the prisoners, rehabilitating misguided children and fighting for the issues of child and women victimization and was looked upon as a steadfast champion of the exploited. She has provided a strong leadership in the social issues like campaigns for ‘Save the Girl Child’, ‘Awareness against Malnutrition’ or ‘Nirbhaya cases’ (–rape cases). She was identified and selected as the speaker at United Nations’ sixty-second session of the Commission on the Status of Women on the topic of “Opportunities and Challenges of Rural Women” in the year 2018. She is fortunate to have work with noted social workers and activists like Arunaben Desai, Pushpaben Mehta, Vinodini Shah and Shanta Tai. Many children and women owe their happy life to her constant and untiring efforts.
